Take steps to reduce your risk from wildfire smoke

In northern New Mexico, there are several wildfires, The biggest fire is located in Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak with an acreage of 160,000+ on fire, And only 20% containment, New Mexicans are being evacuated from their homes. Don't let these wildfires catch you of gourd.

These are a few steps to prepare for the wildfires

  1. Plan two ways out of your neighborhood 
  2. Designate a meeting place before a wildfire threatens your area
  3. Clear needles, leaves, and other debris from roofs, gutters, porches, and decks
  4. Keep piles of firewood at least 30 feet away from the building
  5. Keep lawns mowed and hydrated dry grass shrubs are easily ignited
  6. Install metal mesh screening in the attic and crawl space vents to prevent ignitions
  7. Remove all flammable outdoor items such as (cushions, doormats, and portable propane tanks) 
  8. Dispose of debris and lawn cuttings to reduce fuel for a wildfire
